NEW DELHI: After Jasprit Bumrah dismissed Mohammad Kaif's remarks on his workload as inaccurate, the former India batter offered a subtle response that is likely to calm the situation.

Kaif criticised Bumrah's usage in T20Is under Suryakumar Yadav, pointing out that the pacer bowled three overs with the new ball but was then left with only one over across the remaining 14, a strategy he felt gave the opposition batsmen a major reprieve.

"Bumrah under Rohit would generally bowl overs 1, 13, 17, 19. Under Surya, in Asia Cup, he bowled a three-overs spell at the start. To avoid injury, Bumrah these days, prefers to bowl while his body is warmed up. 1 over of Bumrah in the remaining 14 overs is a huge relief for batters, against stronger teams at World Cup, this could hurt India," Kaif wrote on X.

Bumrah hit back at Kaif's post with a pointed reply, dismissing the claims outright. "Inaccurate before inaccurate again," he wrote.

Kaif tried to calm the situation with a composed reply, urging Bumrah to take his comments simply as observations from a well-wisher and admirer.

"Please take this as a cricketing observation from a well-wisher and an admirer. You are Indian cricket's biggest match-winner and I know what it takes to give it all when on field wearing India colours," Kaif posted on X.

Selectors brushed aside Kaif's concerns by backing Bumrah fully, naming him in India's squad for the upcoming two-Test home series against the West Indies, starting October 2 in Ahmedabad.

Chairman of Selectors Ajit Agarkar was clear that the pacer is well-rested and good to go in the series.

"This is a team for both the Test matches. So, he's available for both. We've had a fair break after England. He didn't play the fifth Test either. There's been a month or five weeks of break," he said.

"This tournament (the ongoing Asia Cup here where Bumrah is playing) has been fairly spaced out till this last week. He's ready and keen to play both Test matches," Agarkar explained.
