On an Instagram post, the T20I India captain Suryakumar Yadav’s sister shared a heartwarming video of the family during which Surya’s mom was seen praying for Iyer’s health at Chhath Puja. "I would like to say that everyone should pray for Shreyas Iyer, that he comes back really well. Because I heard yesterday that his health was not good, and I didn’t like it at all," she said.
The BCCI released a statement on Tuesday, October 28, providing a positive update on Iyer’s condition. “Shreyas Iyer sustained a blunt injury to his abdomen, resulting in a laceration of his spleen with internal bleeding on 25th October during the third ODI against Australia. The injury was promptly identified, and the bleeding was immediately arrested. His condition is now stable, and he continues to be under observation. A repeat scan done on Tuesday has shown significant improvement, and Shreyas is on the road to recovery. The BCCI Medical Team, in consultation with specialists in Sydney and India, will continue to monitor his progress,” the release read.
Speaking ahead of the T20I series, Suryakumar Yadav shared that Iyer is responding well and remains in stable condition. “We spoke to him. When we got to know about his injury, I called him. Then I realised that Shreyas doesn’t have his phone on him, so I called our physio Kamlesh Jain, who told us that he’s stable. He’s been replying on the phone, so he’s stable,” Surya said.
Surya added that Iyer will remain under close observation for a few more days. “Doctors are there with him; it’s looking good. Everything is normal, but he will be kept under observation for a few days. He’s been talking to everyone, so it’s good,” he confirmed.
