While Team India refused to take the Asia Cup trophy from the ACC Chairman, Mohsin Naqvi, the post-match press conference saw a Pakistani journalist questioning T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav for bringing politics into the game of cricket, and his behaviour towards the Pakistani cricket team. The T20 Asia Cup 2025 final culminated in another victory for India against their archrivals, Pakistan, beating them by 5 wickets. This was the third time Pakistan had been beaten by India in this tournament.
Team India refused to shake hands with the Pakistani cricketers, as well as take the trophy from the ACC chairman. The team of Pakistan went bonkers over it, as Pakistan T20 captain Salman Agha also claimed that Team India is disrespecting the sport of cricket.
The Pakistani journalist asked Suryakumar Yadav whether he was the first captain to bring politics into cricket. “The question is, you became Champions today, and you guys played really well today. But the question is, your behaviour towards the Pakistani cricket team in the entire tournament, first you guys refused to shake hands with the Pakistani team, then you refused to participate in the photo session with the trophy, then you held a political press conference. Do you think you are the first captain to bring politics into the history of cricket?”

Suryakumar Yadav was being interrupted by the media advisors in between, not to speak. However, the captain joked that the reporter was getting angry and he asked four questions in one go, not understanding what he was asking. He said, “Do I have to speak or not? You are getting angry. I couldn’t get what your question was, you asked four questions at the same time”
Along with it, Suryakumar Yadav dedicated his match fees of Asia Cup to the armed forces, in the press conference.
