NEW DELHI: Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav has been fined 30 percent of his match fee for comments made after the Asia Cup group league clash against Pakistan, when he referenced the military skirmish between the two countries in May, tournament organisers said on Friday.
However, it is learnt that India have appealed against the ICC's verdict.
The Pakistan Cricket Board had lodged a complaint with the ICC, alleging that Suryakumar's post-match remarks on September 14 - dedicating India's win over their arch-rivals to the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack and the Indian armed forces - were political in nature.
Suryakumar pleaded not guilty, but was reportedly warned not to make any further statements that could be interpreted as political for the remainder of the tournament.
The India skipper's hearing was conducted by ICC match referee Richie Richardson.
Tensions between the two sides have been running high starting with India's refusal to do a traditional handshake with Pakistani players at the time of toss and after the games as a gesture of solidarity with the Pahalgam victims.
