NEW DELHI: India legend Sunil Gavaskar has given blunt advice to India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav, who is currently going through a disastrous run in the shortest format of the game.

Despite India cruising to a comfortable seven wicket win in the third match, the spotlight once again turned to SKY. With no pressure of run rate or target, the senior batter failed to make the opportunity count and threw his wicket away after attempting a rash stroke.

The dismissal came when Suryakumar tried to play his trademark pick-up shot, one that had earlier brought him immense success. This time resulting in a tame dismissal for 12 runs.

Reacting to the shot on commentary, Sunil Gavaskar explained that a stroke which once worked consistently is now proving costly due to poor form.

“It has been a very, very productive shot for him. Now, when you are not in form, it's only gone up in the air instead of going the distance, and well inside the boundary. So maybe, until he starts to get going, he should look to keep that shot in cold storage,” Gavaskar said.

Suryakumar Yadav’s numbers in the series underline the concern. He has managed only 29 runs across three matches, struggling to influence the game as expected.

The broader picture is equally worrying. In this year, Suryakumar has averaged around 14, reflecting a prolonged dip in form that India will be eager to see their captain overcome.
