NEW DELHI: Joe Root's dismissal in the second innings of the first Ashes Test in Perth on Saturday left former England pacer Stuart Broad almost in tears in the commentary box, as he could not hide his emotions over the England star batter's struggles that continued to deepen in Australia.

Commentating beside him, former Australian opener Matthew Hayden erupted in joy, enjoying the moment as Australia shifted gears with quick wickets in the second session on Day 2.

Mitchell Starc once again proved to be Joe Root's nemesis, dismissing him in both innings and taking his tally to 10 dismissals of the England batter in Test cricket.

England were bowled out for 164 in their second innings, with Starc completing a 10-wicket match haul, including a career-best 7-58 in the first innings. That set Australia a target of 205 for victory.

With this performance, Starc became the first Australian fast bowler in more than three decades to claim a ten-wicket haul in an Ashes Test. The last time an Australian seamer achieved the feat was Craig McDermott, who returned match figures of 11/157 at the WACA during the 1990/91 Ashes series.

England lost three wickets without scoring in a momentum-shifting spell after lunch and slumped to 104-7 before Gus Atkinson (37) and Brydon Carse (20) put on 50 in quick time to ensure a 200-plus chase for the Aussies.
