NEW DELHI: In a stunning moment at the Vijay Hazare Trophy, Gujarat's slow left-arm orthodox bowler Vishal Jayswal made headlines by dismissing star India batter Virat Kohli, leaving fans and fellow cricketers in awe.

Speaking exclusively to Sports Yaari, Jayswal opened up about the experience, his mindset during the delivery, and the inspiration behind his remarkable wicket.

"It was an incredible feeling. I mean, I've been watching Virat on TV for years, and to bowl in front of him was a dream come true," Jayswal said. He admitted he had a clear plan in mind when facing Kohli. "I just focused on bowling stump to stump. I knew he might make a mistake eventually. I wasn’t overthinking it, just trying to bowl my best."

Meet Vishal Jayswal, who shocked the cricket world by dismissing Virat Kohli in Vijay Hazare Trophy

Jayswal's plan worked perfectly. Kohli, who was batting on 77 and looking set for a century, was completely beaten by Jayswal's delivery and was stumped shortly after. "It felt magical. Virat was focused, aggressive, and trying to dominate, but the ball worked exactly as I had envisioned," he recalled.

After the match, Jayswal got the chance to interact with Kohli. "When I went to get the ball signed, he appreciated my bowling. He said, 'Well bowled, keep it up,' which meant a lot to me," he said.

The young bowler also revealed that he had mentally prepared himself for the moment. "Before the match, I had told myself that I would take his wicket. I manifested it, and thankfully it worked out."

Despite the high-profile dismissal, Jayswal kept his celebrations in check, showing respect for the seasoned batsman. "I couldn't celebrate too much in front of him. I was just thankful to God for this opportunity," he said.

Jayswal also reflected on Kohli's approach during the match. "He played with the same aggression and intensity that you see in international cricket. It was clear he wanted to dominate, but I just stayed focused on executing my plan."

When asked about his future aspirations, Jaiswal expressed a desire to play in the IPL, ideally with Royal Challengers Bengaluru, the team led by Kohli. "Playing with Virat would be an incredible learning experience. And if I get to bowl against someone like Rohit Sharma in the future, I would see it as another big opportunity," he said.

On the impact of his performance, Jayswal remained humble. "It was a big opportunity, and I'm grateful for it. Virat will keep scoring runs, and I hope to keep performing well wherever I get the chance," he said.

He also revealed that Kohli's intensity on the field was exactly what he expected from international cricket.

"Virat played with full aggression, just like you see in international matches. He was looking to dominate every ball, and the intensity was 100%," Jayswal said. He described Kohli's presence on the field as highly focused and aggressive, even in domestic cricket, noting that the star batsman was intent on scoring big.

Jayswal acknowledged that many of Kohli's fans were disappointed he prevented a potential century. "Virat always makes hundreds, so it was a big opportunity for me. I was just grateful to get the chance to bowl to him," he said. "He will keep scoring, and I'm sure he'll make hundreds in the future for his fans."

Reflecting on his interaction with Kohli after the match, Jayswal recalled feeling nervous yet respectful. "When I went to get the ball signed, I thanked him and asked him to sign it. It's a memory I'll keep safe for a lifetime," he said.

Jayswal also shared his admiration for Kohli's current form, comparing it to the Indian captain's prime in 2016. "Seeing him closely, I feel he is in his prime again - maybe even better. He has become more of a striker, playing with intent and confidence. It's amazing to watch," Jayswal added.

With his wicket of Virat Kohli, Vishal Jayswal has firmly announced his presence in Indian domestic cricket. Fans now eagerly await his next appearances in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and, potentially, the IPL.
