NEW DELHI: South Africa have suffered a double blow ahead of the third ODI against India in Vizag, with fast bowler Nandre Burger and batter Tony de Zorzi ruled out due to injuries.

Burger experienced discomfort in his right hamstring while bowling during the second ODI on Wednesday, while de Zorzi suffered pain in the same area while batting and was forced to leave the field during the run chase. Scans conducted on Friday confirmed the severity of both players' injuries.

De Zorzi has also been ruled out of the upcoming five-match T20I series against India, which begins on Tuesday, 9 December, and will return home. No replacements have been named for him yet.

Meanwhile, fast bowler Kwena Maphaka failed to make the expected progress in his rehabilitation from a left hamstring injury and will not be available for the start of the T20I series. To bolster the squad, DP World Lions pacer Lutho Sipamla has been added to the team.
