Former India captain Sourav Ganguly has hinted at the possibility of taking up a coaching role with the Delhi Capitals (DC) starting from the IPL 2027 season. While Ganguly has previously served as mentor and Director of Cricket for the franchise, he has never been part of the setup in an official coaching capacity.

Ganguly, who has also played a key role in the Delhi Capitals Women’s Premier League (WPL) setup, represented the franchise at the WPL auction last year. Reflecting on his long-standing association with the Capitals, he credited co-owner Parth Jindal for his leadership and vision, and spoke about his own contribution to building the team’s structure and culture.
“It’s been a great journey. I’ve been involved with the Delhi Capitals franchise across teams, including the WPL. Last season, I worked more behind the scenes — building squads, planning auctions, and tracking performances — although I wasn’t in the dugout for two years,” Ganguly said at a SA20 event.

Ganguly, who took over as head coach of the Pretoria Capitals for the upcoming SA20 season, revealed that he might consider a similar coaching role in the IPL in the future. “After discussions with Parth, I decided to commit fully for a month — being involved in day-to-day activities, managing wins and losses, and contributing during the auction,” he explained.

The former India captain added that his current focus is on helping Pretoria Capitals bounce back after failing to reach the playoffs in previous editions. “That’s why I’m working full-time with the franchise this year, and this involvement will continue into the upcoming IPL season as well,” Ganguly noted.

With Ganguly’s strategic mind and coaching instincts coming to the fore once again, fans could soon see the former India skipper transition into a full-time coaching role within the Delhi Capitals setup.
