Mumbai have been one of the standout teams in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy, producing a string of memorable performances, with brothers Sarfaraz Khan and Musheer Khan playing central roles in the middle order.
In his most recent outing for Mumbai, Sarfaraz delivered a breathtaking knock, smashing a 57-ball century before going on to score 157 off just 75 deliveries. In the same match, younger brother Musheer complemented the effort with a composed half-century, as the siblings once again showcased their growing influence on the team’s success.
Reflecting on what it means to share the field with his brother, Sarfaraz opened up about their unique on-field understanding. Speaking to The Times of India, he said, “We’ve played together for years, so we understand each other’s game really well. We learn from each other’s successes and failures. Even though he is much younger, Musheer’s guidance matters because he thinks differently.”
Despite being the elder sibling, Sarfaraz admitted he values Musheer’s inputs, even if they occasionally test his patience.
“When we’re in the middle, we keep talking about how to handle a bowler or pace the innings. Musheer always tells me something or the other. Sometimes I get angry, but I never take his suggestions lightly,” he said.
Sarfaraz, who last represented India in November 2024, walked in at a delicate stage during Mumbai’s match against Goa. While the openers had navigated a challenging first hour, conditions were still testing when he arrived at the crease. Alongside Musheer, however, Sarfaraz steadied the innings before launching a counterattack.
“When I came in, the run-rate wasn’t too high because both openers had seen off the tricky first hour. It’s always difficult in the morning when the ball is doing a bit,” Sarfaraz explained. “I focused on settling down first and then attacking as the pitch eased. The plan was to score as many runs as possible and set a strong target. By the time I came in, Musheer was already batting really well.”
Together, the Khan brothers’ partnership proved decisive, underlining Mumbai’s depth and dominance in the tournament so far.
