NEW DELHI: After the Indian women's cricket team pulled off a record chase against Australia - a feat achieved in the World Cup semifinal - tributes poured in for the side, hailing their historic victory over a team that has ruled world cricket like no other.

Jemimah Rodrigues played a cracker of an innings, smashing an unbeaten 127 off 134 balls to steer India into their third ODI World Cup final. India also snapped seven-time champions Australia's 15-match unbeaten run in the competition across two editions.

Unreal Numbers! All the records India broke in their epic win against Australia

Jemimah's hard-fought knock - her third career century and first in a World Cup - was built around a solid 167-run partnership for the third wicket with skipper Harmanpreet Kaur (89 off 88 balls, 10 fours, 2 sixes), as India chased down 341/5 in 48.3 overs to seal a five-wicket win with nine balls remaining.

With India set to face South Africa on Sunday, the tournament is guaranteed to crown a first-time champion.

The moment the Indian women's team scripted history, cricket legends and World Cup winners - from the iconic Sachin Tendulkar to Virender Sehwag - took to social media to laud their effort and congratulate them on a stupendous achievement.

"Fabulous victory! Well done @JemiRodrigues and @ImHarmanpreet for leading from the front. Shree Charani and @Deepti_Sharma06, you kept the game alive with the ball. Keep the tricolour flying high," Sachin wrote on X.

"Australia soch rahi thi ek aur semi-final hai, aaram se jeeto aur pahuncho Final- hamari ladkiyon ne socha yeh to mauka hai asli dhamaka karne ka! Saare criticism ko dho daala. Kya khel dikhaya. Proud of our women in blue," Sehwag posted.

"There are wins that go beyond numbers on a scoreboard. This was one of them. Under pressure, with the world watching @ImHarmanpreet played with the calm and conviction of a true leader while @JemiRodrigues brought pure focus and intent to play an innings of a lifetime! This partnership came from belief in their own game, in each other, and in what this team stands for. A historic semi final to win and on to the finals now!," 2011 World Cup hero Yuvraj Singh wrote.
