NEW DELHI: India skipper Shubman Gill is set to travel to Guwahati for the second Test against South Africa, despite doubts over his fitness following a neck injury sustained during the first Test in Kolkata, which India lost by 30 runs.

The 26-year-old retired hurt in the first innings of the opening Test and required hospitalisation, raising concerns about his availability for the crucial match starting on November 22.

“Shubman has been responding well to the medical treatment provided and will travel to Guwahati with the team on 19th November, 2025,” BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said.

“He will continue to be monitored by the BCCI medical team and a decision on his participation in the 2nd Test will be taken accordingly,” he added, keeping uncertainty over Gill’s role alive.

In the meantime, all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy has been withdrawn from the ongoing India A series against South Africa A in Rajkot. The Andhra Pradesh batter, who has a Test century to his name, reached Kolkata on Monday evening but skipped Tuesday’s net session.

If Gill is unable to take the field, Reddy, a right-handed batsman and capable bowler, could feature in India’s playing eleven in Guwahati.
