NEW DELHI: In a big development in Indian cricket, Shubman Gill has been appointed as India's new ODI captain, replacing Rohit Sharma and will lead the side in the three-match series in Australia starting on October 19.
Gill's elevation as ODI captain was announced by chief selector Ajit Agarkar on Saturday in Ahmedabad after India outclassed West Indies in the first Test by an innings and 140 runs.

Agarkar also named India's squad for the three-match ODI series against Australia. Gill now holds official leadership roles across all formats - as Test and ODI captain, and vice-captain of the T20I side.
Rohit and Virat Kohli were included in the squad, set to represent India for the first time since the Champions Trophy in March.
Pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has been rested for the ODI leg of the tour to manage his workload, while promising left-hander Yashasvi Jaiswal has been recalled to the 50-over setup after a string of consistent performances in T20 internationals.
