Skipper Shubman Gill, who was sidelined from the second Test due to a neck injury, delivered a message of unity and resilience after India’s 0–2 series defeat to South Africa. Despite the setback, Gill asserted that the team would “rise stronger.”

India endured a disappointing two-Test series, with South Africa sealing a historic clean sweep, their first Test series victory on Indian soil in 25 years. After winning the opener in Kolkata by 30 runs, the visitors dominated the second Test in Guwahati, handing India a crushing 408-run defeat.

The back-to-back losses sparked widespread criticism, with discussions intensifying around the team’s performance and leadership. Coach Gautam Gambhir even faced boos from sections of the crowd.

Sharing his thoughts on X on Wednesday, Gill wrote:
“Calm seas don’t teach you how to steer, it’s the storm that forges steady hands. We’ll continue to believe in each other, fight for each other, and move forward, rising stronger.”

Gill had retired hurt on four after suffering a neck spasm during India’s first innings of the Kolkata Test. He was later hospitalised and ruled out of the remainder of the match. Though he travelled with the team to Guwahati, he was released ahead of the second Test as he continued his recovery.
