NEW DELHI: Shubman Gill has established himself as an all-format batter in a very short span of time and holds the record as the youngest Indian to score a century in all three formats.
Gill has earned accolades for his stellar performances from all quarters, and the newly appointed T20I vice-captain has now found a new admirer in Wasim Akram. Gill left the former Pakistan captain awestruck with his shot during India's Asia Cup opener against UAE in Dubai on Wednesday.
While commentating, Akram was left stunned by Gill's impeccable timing as he sent UAE's Muhammad Rohid Khan over the boundary. Charging down the track, Gill met a length delivery on the pads and unleashed an emphatic flick that soared over deep square-leg for maximum.

Akram, who was in the commentary box, lavished praise on Gill for his shot. "Look at that shot, look at that shot, unbelievable! Into the stands. Just a flick of the risk, unbelievable shot," he said with a lot of excitement.
Gill remained unbeaten on 20 off just nine balls, guiding India to chase down 58 in a mere 4.3 overs. Gill's innings included two fours and a six, and he shared a 48-run opening stand with childhood friend Abhishek Sharma, who scored 30 off 16 deliveries.
After India's thumping victory, Gill also took to social media and shared a few photos from the win with the caption, "Step one." His two-word post is largely being viewed as a hint at what lies ahead for India.
It suggested that the first task is done and dusted, with the next big step coming against arch-rivals Pakistan on Sunday - a clash where Team India will be determined to deliver a knockout punch.
