NEW DELHI: Shubman Gill arrived in Ahmedabad on Thursday with the Indian squad ahead of the fifth and final T20I against South Africa, despite being under an injury cloud after suffering a blow to his toe before the fourth match.

Gill was originally set to miss Wednesday's fourth T20I in Ahmedabad due to the injury in the nets, but the match was called off because of poor weather conditions.

It is still uncertain whether Gill, who has also been struggling for runs, will be available for selection in the fifth T20I on Friday, or if Sanju Samson will be preferred in place of the Indian vice-captain.

Earlier, Gill had missed most of the Test series against South Africa because of a neck injury sustained in the series opener in Kolkata, which also kept him out of the subsequent three-match ODI series.

India currently lead the five-match series 2-1, with the contest on Friday marking their final outing for the calendar year.

Following this, India will face New Zealand in a three-match ODI and five-match T20I series starting January 11.
