NEW DELHI: Former Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan has strongly condemned the recent attack on Hindu minorities in Bangladesh, reacting to a disturbing incident involving the brutal assault of a widow in the country.

Referring to the incident, Dhawan described the violence as “unacceptable” and expressed his anguish over the treatment of minorities.

Taking to social media, the former India opener shared a heartfelt message while calling for justice and support for the survivor.

“Heartbreaking to read about the brutal assault on a Hindu widow in Bangladesh. Such violence against anyone, anywhere is unacceptable. Prayers for justice and support for the survivor.”

Dhawan’s tweet drew widespread attention, with many echoing his concern over the safety of minority communities and appreciating his willingness to speak out on a sensitive issue beyond the cricket field.

Bangladesh is currently going through a phase of deep political instability following the toppling of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Since then, the country has witnessed growing unrest, with repeated reports of violence and attacks on minorities increasingly making headlines and adding to the atmosphere of chaos.

The unrest has also spilled into the cricketing sphere. Recently, controversy surrounding Mustafizur Rahman brought renewed focus on the situation, following which the Bangladesh Cricket Board requested the ICC to consider shifting Bangladesh’s matches out of India for the 2026 T20 World Cup, citing prevailing concerns.
