The India vs Pakistan rivalry needs no introduction, because this is one of those rivalries that often spills out of the stadium. And amidst all the tensions that the Handshake row at the Asia Cup has added to this feisty fixture, the statements by Shahid Afridi, aimed at former Indian pacer Irfan Pathan, have only added to the fire.

Last month, after Irfan Pathan revealed some very controversial and hot details about the 2006 Karachi to Lahore flight incident between him and Shahid Afridi, the ex-Pakistani skipper clapped back at him very recently. Talking on Samaa TV, a Pakistani news channel, Shahid Afridi responded to the "Dog Meat" comments made by Irfan Pathan on Lallantop in August.

Earlier today, a few clips of Shahid Afridi surfaced on Social Media of him addressing that incident and calling out Irfan Pathan. Afridi pointed out that he was infact glad that a fellow Muslim was visiting India on tour before taking a jibe at his bowling speeds. He said, "I was happy when Irfan was new and came for the Pakistan tour as a Muslim representing India. He should be thankful that India lacked pacers in that era, and bowlers with a speed of 120-125 got a chance to play."

He went on to recall what Abdul Razzaq, the ex-Pakistani all-rounder who was aboard that plane, had to say about this whole incident. Irfan Pathan had asked Razzaq what kind of meat was available here (In Pakistan). And then had stated that Afridi has eaten dog meat, and that's why he keeps on barking. The Indian all-rounder also claimed that Afridi had earlier messed with his hair and asked him, "How are you, kid?"

To which Pathan had replied, "Since when have you become my father?" He went on to explain, "The childish behaviour was actually his. He was not my friend. After that, Afridi said some abusive words to me."

This is what prompted the 2007 World Cup winner with India to say what he did to Razzaq. Pathan also claimed that this conversation was enough to shut up Afridi for the rest of the flight.

Afridi spoke out on these alleged altercations and said, "Abdul Razzaq said these are lies, there was no conversation about dog meat."

Shahid Afridi further went on to say, "Main usko mard manta hu jo samne kadha ho ke baat kare (If he is a man, then he shall say it to my face). He can keep talking behind my back. I can only respond if he says it on my face. What should I respond to this lie? I think he's trying to prove that he is a great Indian and how I'm against Pakistani's. Poor soul, he'll spend his entire life proving how great an Indian he is."

While no one can truly prove what happened during that flight to Lahore, everyone can certainly agree on one thing. That the fixture on Sunday between India and Pakistan just got more heat latched onto it.
