NEW DELHI: Having failed to attract any bids at last year's IPL mega auction, Sarfaraz Khan sent a loud and clear message to franchises ahead of the IPL 2026 mini-auction with a whirlwind knock for Mumbai in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy Super League match against Haryana on Saturday.
Sarfaraz blasted his way to 64 off 25 balls, studded with nine fours and three sixes, to help Mumbai gun down a mammoth 235-run target in just 17.3 overs with four wickets remaining.
The right-handed batter transformed the chase the moment he walked in, dismantling Bhardwaj with cheeky ramps and audacious lap shots, making full use of the left-arm medium pacer's lack of pace.
He raced to his half-century off just 18 balls, with Yashasvi Jaiswal sensibly playing the supporting role at the other end. Once the burly right-hander departed, Jaiswal shifted gears seamlessly, taking control to wrap up the chase in quick time.
Mumbai keep final hopes alive
Overlooked by the national selectors in the T20 setup, Jaiswal delivered yet another emphatic reminder to the Ajit Agarkar–led selection committee, hammering a scintillating century off just 48 balls.
After a meek surrender to Hyderabad in their Super League opener that dented Mumbai's net run rate, Jaiswal (101 off 50) and Sarfaraz Khan responded in brutal fashion, launching a fearless assault to overhaul a daunting target with remarkable ease.
During post-match presentation ceremony, Jaiswal requested his teammate Sarfaraz to join him while collecting the Player of The Match cheque of Rs 50,000.
