Holding the innings together
Chasing a target of 245, Maharashtra had a nightmare start, slipping to 25/5. It seemed as if Goa had the upper hand, but Gaikwad, coming in at number five, took charge and kept the innings alive. His knock included 134 runs, featuring 8 fours and 6 sixes at a healthy strike rate of 102.
Gaikwad’s innings left the Goa bowlers with no answers and was a textbook example of composure under pressure. This is easily one of the most remarkable innings of this year’s Vijay Hazare Trophy and highlights why he is regarded as one of India’s brightest batting talents in the 50-over game.
