On‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ October 29, ex-India captain Rohit Sharma recorded a landmark achievement in his career by being India's oldest cricketer to feature at the number one position in the ICC ODI batting rankings. With a stellar career, Rohit at the age of 38 years and 182 days moved up two spots to the top for the very first time and took over the place from fellow countryman and the current India captain Shubman ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌Gill.

Rohit Sharma overtakes Shubman Gill after fifty and a century against Australia

In‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ his two innings against Australia, Rohit really shined. A simply majestic 73 off 97 balls in the second ODI at Adelaide Oval and a brilliant 121 off 125 balls in the third ODI at the Sydney Cricket Ground were his highlights. These two extraordinary performances could be counted as the reasons for his points total going up to 781, which put him above Gill, who scored only 10, 9, and 24 in the three-match series.

So with this achievement, Rohit becomes the fifth Indian batter to record the No. 1 rank in ODIs after four great Indian players — Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, and Shubman Gill. On the other hand, Kohli dropped a position to 6th with 725 points, although he made a fine 74 in the third ODI. Shreyas Iyer’s half-century in Adelaide had the effect of moving him up one place to ninth.

Josh Hazlewood moved into eighth position among the bowlers, while Kuldeep Yadav slipped to seventh. Adam Zampa, who took four wickets in the second ODI, climbed two places to 12th, and Mitchell Santner moved three positions up to fourth among ODI ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌bowlers.
