NEW DELHI: Rohit Sharma, who was recently replaced as India's ODI captain by Shubman Gill, is on the verge of joining the country's legendary club. The first ODI against Australia in Perth is set to be a special one for Rohit as the match could mark several milestones in his illustrious international career.

When Rohit takes the field for India in Perth on Sunday, it will be his 500th international match. With this, he would become the fifth Indian and the 11th player in the world to reach the 500-match mark in international cricket.

Among Indians, only Sachin Tendulkar (664 matches), Virat Kohli (550), MS Dhoni (538), and Rahul Dravid (509) have played 500 or more international matches before him. Had Rohit not retired from Tests and T20Is, he would have reached the milestone much earlier.

In addition to this milestone, if Rohit scores a century in the match, it will be his 50th international hundred. Rohit Sharma has scored 32 centuries in ODIs, 12 in Tests, and 5 in T20Is in his international career.

Furthermore, during the ODI series against Australia, if Rohit clears eight sixes, he will become the highest six-hitter in ODI cricket history. Rohit sits just behind former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi, who leads the chart with 351 sixes.

With so many records within reach, the Perth ODI promises to be a memorable one for the former Indian captain.
