NEW DELHI: Rohit Sharma appeared to find his mojo back in the second ODI against Australia at the Adelaide Oval on Thursday, scoring a crucial 73-run knock that will likely put retirement talks to rest for now. During the innings, Rohit achieved a record that no other Indian batter has ever accomplished.
The former captain became the first Indian - and the fifth overall batter - to score 1,000 ODI runs against Australia in Australia. Rohit now has a total of 1,071 runs against the Aussies on their home soil. Virat Kohli ranks second with 802 runs, followed by Sachin Tendulkar (740) and MS Dhoni (684).

Rohit needed two runs to reach the landmark and he achieved it by hitting Mitchell Starc for a four on the fifth ball of the third over of India's innings.
Two West Indian legends, Sir Vivian Richards (1,905) and Desmond Haynes (1,565), top the list, followed by Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara (1,171). Rohit Sharma has now surpassed Mahela Jayawardene, who scored 1,013 runs against Australia in Australia.
Rohit's knock in the second ODI was not as flamboyant as he is known for, recording his slowest ODI half-century since 2015, reaching his 59th fifty off 74 balls.
Upon reaching the milestone, Rohit's celebration was subdued. After a challenging period negotiating Josh Hazlewood, he appeared to regain his rhythm, dispatching Mitchell Owen for a couple of sixes over deep square leg, offering glimpses of his vintage self.
Since 2022, Rohit has recorded 19 scores of 50 or more, but this is only the second time he has reached the mark with a strike rate below 100.
