NEW DELHI: In a major development, former India all-rounder Roger Binny has reportedly resigned as president of the BCCI. According to a Dainik Jagran report, senior board official and current vice-president Rajeev Shukla has been named interim president.

Binny, who has served as BCCI president since October 2022, turned 70 on July 19. Under the board's constitution, any office-bearer crossing that age becomes ineligible to continue in the role.

At 65, Shukla has been serving as the BCCI vice-president since 2020 and will now take charge of the board's daily operations until the Annual General Meeting (AGM), expected in September. His role is understood to be interim, with the next full-time president set to be elected at the AGM through consensus among the state units.

At the BCCI Apex Council meeting on Wednesday, Shukla officially assumed charge as acting chief. The key agenda of the meeting was to finalise Team India's new lead sponsor after Dream11's recent exit. However, with the Asia Cup kicking off on September 9, securing a replacement in time poses a major challenge.

"We don't even have two weeks left. We are trying, but floating a new tender, completing legal processes, and handling technicalities will take time. As for a short-term sponsor only for the Asia Cup, we are not going that way. Our focus is on securing a sponsor for the next two-and-a-half years, until the 2027 ODI World Cup in October-November," the report said.
