NEW DELHI: Wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has made a return to the Indian Test team, with the 15-member squad for the two-match series against South Africa announced on Wednesday.

He replaced N Jagadeesan in the squad led by Shubhman Gill.

Pant had missed India's previous Test series against the West Indies while recovering from a foot fracture sustained during the fourth Test against England in Manchester in July.

The wicketkeeper-batter showcased his match readiness by leading India A to victory in the first four-day encounter against South Africa A at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru last week. Pant scored a crucial 90 in the second innings, guiding India A to successfully chase down a target of 275.

Pacer Akash Deep, who was not part of the home series against the West Indies due to shoulder injury, has been recalled to the team, replacing Prasidh Krishna.

India's pace attack features Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj, while the spin department will once again rely on veteran Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav and Washington Sundar.

The two-Test series will begin with the first match in Kolkata from November 14, followed by the second match in Guwahati from November 22 - a city hosting Test cricket for the first time.

India's Test squad: Shubman Gill (C), Rishabh Pant (WK) (VC), Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, Devdutt Padikkal, Dhruv Jurel, Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, Jasprit Bumrah, Axar Patel, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Mohammed Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav, Akash Deep

Rohit, Kohli not named in India A squad

The Selection Committee has also picked India A's squad for the three-match one-day series to be held in Rajkot against South Africa A.

As expected, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were not included, despite both making impressive returns to ODI cricket in the recently concluded series against Australia Down Under.

Rohit was named Player of the Series against Australia after scoring 73 and an unbeaten 121 in the second and third ODIs, while Kohli also roared back to form with an unbeaten 74 in the third game following successive ducks.

India A's squad for one-day team: Tilak Varma (C), Ruturaj Gaikwad (VC), Abhishek Sharma, Riyan Parag, Ishan Kishan (WK), Ayush Badoni, Nishant Sindhu, Vipraj Nigam, Manav Suthar, Harshit Rana, Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna, Khaleel Ahmed, Prabhsimran Singh (WK)
