NEW DELHI: With the Ashes series of 2025–26 set to conclude in a couple of days, Australia are on track to retain the prestigious urn after nearly one and a half months of gruelling Test cricket.

England will once again challenge Australia in home conditions as they look to regain the trophy. Looking ahead to that marquee series, Australian legend Ricky Ponting has revealed his predicted Australia squad for the 2027 Ashes in England.
Ponting has backed continuity at the top, naming Pat Cummins to continue as captain. He has also retained Alex Carey as the wicketkeeper, indicating stability in leadership and roles heading into the future.
The pace attack remains unchanged in Ponting’s thinking, with Australia expected to rely on their proven fast bowling unit once again in English conditions. The selection reflects faith in experience rather than experimentation.
In the batting department, Ponting has continued to back Marnus Labuschagne despite his recent struggles in Test cricket. Steve Smith also features, highlighting the value Ponting places on experience in high-pressure away Ashes series.
One of the more surprising calls is the inclusion of Cameron Green. The all-rounder has struggled to find consistency in the Test format in recent times, but Ponting clearly believes Green’s ability with both bat and ball could still play a crucial role in 2027.
Beau Webster is also part of the projected squad, adding further balance to the all-round options.
Among the spinners, Ponting expects the combination to remain steady, suggesting Australia will continue to rely on experience alongside emerging support options.
Overall, Ponting’s predicted squad reflects a clear blend of trust in Australia’s established core and selective backing of players he believes can deliver when the Ashes return to England.
