In a significant legal development, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) left-arm pacer Yash Dayal has suffered a setback after a Jaipur court rejected his plea for anticipatory bail. The decision leaves the 27-year-old cricketer facing the possibility of arrest in connection with serious allegations made against him.
Dayal’s counsel argued before the Jaipur POCSO court that the cricketer was being targeted by individuals attempting to damage his career. However, after hearing submissions from both sides, including those from the complainant, the court declined to grant anticipatory bail.
What is the case against RCB apcer Yash Dayal?
On June 21, a woman filed a complaint alleging that Dayal cheated her during a relationship that spanned five years. According to the complaint, the cricketer allegedly promised marriage but later withdrew, causing emotional and physical distress. The woman subsequently accused Dayal of sexual assault and registered an FIR against him.
More recently, a separate FIR was filed in Jaipur by another complainant, who alleged that Dayal sexually abused her when she was a minor. The 17-year-old claimed she was subjected to exploitation over a two-year period and was emotionally manipulated with promises of support in building a cricketing career.
An FIR in connection with the case was registered on July 6 at the Indirapuram police station in Ghaziabad under Section 69 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertains to sexual intercourse by employing deceitful means.
During the bail hearing, Dayal’s legal team stated that he was willing to cooperate with the investigation and highlighted his professional commitments as a cricketer. However, government counsel Rachna Maan opposed the plea, arguing that the accused allegedly established physical relations with the complainant by making false promises.
She further pointed out that consent from a minor holds no legal validity under Indian law. Taking these arguments into account, the court rejected Dayal’s anticipatory bail application.
Impact on RCB and IPL future
Since the allegations surfaced, Dayal has not featured in competitive cricket. He was barred from participating in the UP T20 League, and RCB faced criticism for retaining him ahead of IPL 2026.
With anticipatory bail denied and legal proceedings ongoing, uncertainty now looms over Dayal’s immediate cricketing future, including his potential availability for the upcoming IPL season.
