One of the smartest cricketers on the planet, Ravichandran Ashwin, is often praised for his cricketing intellect - and in this instance, his brilliance was way beyond the cricket field. Just last week, the 39-year-old spinning artist brought to light a fraudster who was faking the identity of Australian spinner Adam Zampa and deceiving him into giving up the personal contact details of some Indian cricketers.
Ravichandran Ashwin trolls the scammer with a hilarious response
The imposter reached out to Ashwin on WhatsApp, asking for contact information of players such as Abhishek Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Sanju Samson, Jitesh Sharma, Rinku Singh, and Shivam Dube. Ashwin, sensing something fishy, played along and replied, asking if the mentioned players would suffice. The scammer responded affirmatively, even offering a number saved as “MS Dhoni Indian Cricketer” when Ashwin inquired about Dhoni’s contact.
Keeping his cool, the 39-year-old wittily replied that he was compiling all the contacts in an Excel sheet and would share them soon. Ashwin later screen-recorded the conversation and posted it on Instagram with the caption: “Fake Adam Zampa tries to strike.” His quick thinking not only exposed the fraud but also gave fans a good laugh.
Ashwin, who has already announced his retirement from IPL post-2025 season, is now looking forward to a new chapter in his cricketing journey. The off-spinner will be debuting in the Big Bash League (BBL) in December, where he will be playing for the Sydney Thunder in the eight-team competition.
Ashwin will play the whole BBL season to make up for not being bought at the ILT20 auction in Dubai. Hence, he will be the first capped Indian male cricketer to feature in the BBL. In his storied international career, Ashwin has taken 537 wickets in Tests, 156 in ODIs, and 72 in T20Is, besides scoring 6 centuries in Tests — one of them being the highest with 124 against the West Indies at Eden Gardens in 2013. The fans will definitely be looking forward to see the crafty off-spinner do his trick once again when he plays in Australia later this year in the 15th edition of BBL.
