NEW DELHI: Following Ravichandran Ashwin's announcement of his IPL retirement and his intention to explore T20 leagues worldwide, The Hundred has emerged as a potential next destination for the former Indian spinner, according to report.
The Daily Telegraph stated it 'understands that Ashwin would be eager to feature in next season's Hundred tournament.'
"Ashwin plans to play in several leagues around the world over the coming years, and has identified the Hundred as a competition in which he would be eager to appear," the report stated.
Leagues like The Hundred have long sought the participation of top Indian cricketers, but the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) traditionally restricted current Indian players from featuring in foreign T20 tournaments.
However, following his retirement from international cricket at the end of last year and now from the IPL, Ashwin is free to participate in leagues across the globe.
"Special day and hence a special beginning. They say every ending will have a new start, my time as an IPL cricketer comes to a close today, but my time as an explorer of the game around various leagues begins today," Ashwin announced his retirement on X.
