NEW DELHI: What was envisioned four years ago finally became a reality, as the Indian women's cricket team unveiled their long-awaited team song after clinching their maiden World Cup title with a 52-run victory over South Africa in the final in Navi Mumbai on Sunday.

The BCCI shared a video on social media in which batter Jemimah Rodrigues was ecstatic to finally live the moment they had been waiting for. "I'll just say this - we decided four years ago that we would only reveal our team song when we win the World Cup, and tonight is the night," she said.

"Rahega sab se upar, hamara Tiranga!… ham hai Team India, ham hai Team India!" (Our tri-colour would fly high) echoed deep into the triumphant night as the squad sung their hearts out.

Head coach and domestic stalwart Amol Muzumdar's voice was among the prominent ones singing the song that was heard from a distance.

"Saath mein chalenge, saath mein uthenge… ham hai Team India, saath me jeetenge," (We will walk together, we will rise together, we will win together, we are Team India) they sang boisterously after winning the first global trophy.

If June 25, 1983 was a watershed moment for Indian men's cricket, when Kapil's Devils beat the mighty West Indies at the Lord's, November 2, 2025 will be a seminal moment for women's cricket movement.

India's breakthrough in the 13th edition of the global showpiece made them only the fourth team to win the trophy, joining Australia (7), England (4) and New Zealand (1) in the pantheon of champions.

With the victory, Harmanpreet's team finally buried the ghosts of past heartbreaks - the 2005 and 2017 finals - and delivered India's much-awaited World title, a watershed moment for the game in the country.

After posting 298 for 7 - the second-highest total in tournament history - India held their nerve to bundle out South Africa for 246 in 45.3 overs.
