Spin all-rounder Prenelan Subrayen produced a devastating new-ball spell against his former side before Rilee Rossouw capitalised on multiple reprieves to guide the Joburg Super Kings to a commanding six-wicket bonus-point victory over Durban’s Super Giants in the SA20.

After skittling the Super Giants for a meagre 86, the Super Kings completed the chase with ease, reaching the target in just 12.2 overs to climb to second place on the points table, behind leaders Sunrisers Eastern Cape.

Super Kings skipper Faf du Plessis struck gold with his decision to open the bowling with Subrayen, as the off-spinner tore through a star-studded top order to finish with figures of 3/16.

Subrayen made an immediate impact, dismissing in-form Devon Conway in his first over. Kane Williamson and Jos Buttler soon followed inside the powerplay, leaving the Super Giants reeling at 21/3.

Du Plessis then added another tactical twist, handing the gloves to Matthew de Villiers while throwing the ball to Donovan Ferreira. The move paid off instantly, with the part-time off-spinner removing the dangerous Heinrich Klaasen, caught at short mid-wicket.

From there, the Super Giants’ innings unravelled. Captain Aiden Markram fought a lone battle with 22 off 27 balls, but lacked support as wickets continued to tumble, leading to a swift collapse.

In reply, the Super Kings suffered an early wobble, losing Du Plessis and De Villiers cheaply to slip to 19/2, before Wiaan Mulder was caught in the deep to make it 24/3.

However, costly lapses in the field proved decisive for the Super Giants. Rossouw was handed two lifelines — dropped on eight and 16 by Williamson and Evan Jones — and the left-hander made them count.

Rossouw struck five boundaries and a six in a composed knock of 43, steering the chase to the brink before Ferreira sealed the win in style, smashing 12 not out off four balls to complete a dominant performance.
