NEW DELHI: In a major boost for the Australian side, Australia T20I skipper Mitchell Marsh struck a sensational century in the Big Bash League clash against Hobart Hurricanes, offering strong and timely signs ahead of the upcoming T20 World Cup.

Opening the batting for Perth Scorchers, Mitchell Marsh walked out with clear intent and went all guns blazing from the very start. He dominated the Hurricanes bowlers with authority and control, setting the tone for a massive total.

Marsh brought up a superb hundred, scoring 102 runs off 58 deliveries, an innings laced with 11 fours and five towering sixes.

Marsh, who has been leading the Australian T20I side for some time now, continues to show excellent form with the bat. With the T20 World Cup just weeks away, his commanding knock will come as a huge confidence booster for Australia.

The signs are encouraging for the skipper as the side heads into the marquee tournament with momentum, and Australia will enter the event as one of the strong favourites to lift the title.

Apart from Marsh, Aaron Hardie provided a brilliant finishing touch for Perth Scorchers. He narrowly missed out on a century, remaining unbeaten on 94 runs off just 43 balls.

Hardie’s explosive knock, struck at a superb strike rate of 218.60, included nine fours and five sixes and ensured the Scorchers finished with a massive total of 229 for three in their 20 overs.

It was a disappointing outing with the ball for Hobart Hurricanes. Captain Nathan Ellis was the only bowler to find success, picking up two wickets while conceding 44 runs.

Mitchell Owen chipped in with one wicket, but overall, it was a tough day for the Hurricanes bowling unit as they struggled to contain the Scorchers’ powerful batting display.
