Pakistan’s white-ball discard, Muhammad Irfan Khan, has been appointed captain of a youthful squad for the men’s Asia Cup Rising Stars tournament, set to take place in Doha later this month.
The 15-member squad features only three players with prior senior team experience: Irfan, spinner Sufiyan Muqeem, and fast bowler Ahmed Daniyal. The rest of the team comprises emerging talents who have impressed in Pakistan’s Under-19 teams, the Shaheens, domestic cricket, and the Pakistan Super League.
The tournament, scheduled from November 14 to 23, will see Pakistan face India once again. Pakistan Shaheens are placed in Group B alongside Oman, India A, and UAE, while Group A features Afghanistan A, Bangladesh A, Hong Kong, and Sri Lanka A.
Pakistan will kick off their T20 campaign against Oman on November 14, clash with India A on November 16, and face UAE in their final group match on November 18.
