NEW DELHI: India T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav is gearing up for the upcoming Asia Cup, leaving no stone unturned in his preparations. After undergoing successful surgery in Germany in June for a sports hernia in his lower right abdomen, Surya spent a few weeks at the BCCI Centre of Excellence to regain his rhythm.
The BCCI posted a video on X where Suryakumar spoke about the challenges he faced, the systematic approach he adopted, and the support he received from the BCCI Centre of Excellence during his recovery.
"I'm feeling good right now. It's been five to six weeks. Good process, good routines for last, last six weeks and fingers crossed, feeling really. It actually got diagnosed close to the end of IPL. I felt it because I had a similar kind of injury last year as well. And that's how I got to know so few checklists were there," Surya said.

"I tried those things and then I realized that it's time to go and do a small MRI. When I did it, it was very clear that I did it post IPL, went to Germany, did it really. It went really well how it went last year and I knew how the recovery is going to be step by step. So I was prepared for everything. So we took one week at a time and we are here and I'm feeling good," he added.
Surya said that the biggest positive for him at the CoE was how well the staff understood his body and how it reacts in different situations. The strength and conditioning coaches, along with the physios, tailored his training and recovery plans specifically for him.
"I think the most important thing for me is when you come here at CoE or when I was here at NCA last year as well, they understood how my body reacts to certain situations. So all the strength and conditioning coach and the physios, they understood how his body works and accordingly they planned all the workouts. It was all instant," Surya pointed out.
"As soon as I used to hit the gym and I came here, they would plan the sessions and that's how we took one week at a time. And slowly but steadily we are here on the first day on the ground after so long. Firstly, it's very massive. The place is. The place is huge. Let me talk about the gym first. I think more than 30, 35 people can train here together. We have that big facility and I actually used most of the equipment here, some, some new equipment which are actually very useful from an athlete's point of view."
"The place is amazing not only for a, for a rehab, but if someone, any contracted player or a targeted player wants to come here for a few weeks, train, use the ground and everything. I didn't count, but I think there are more than about 60, 70 wickets to practice as well. Then you have three grounds. Unbelievable facility and it's the best which I've seen for a really long time. The most important thing during a rehab phase is to have good people around you who will guide you really well. And that's what I did from the last two, three years."
"Whenever I was in rehab, I saw it as an opportunity to come back as the best version of myself. If I was here for six weeks, eight weeks or 12 weeks, I could take that one week at a time, prepare myself mentally that way and just use the facility and stay in that moment and move in the right direction," Surya concluded.
The Asia Cup will be staged in Dubai and Abu Dhabi from September 9 to 28, with eight teams split into two groups. Group A features India, Pakistan, UAE, and Oman, while Group B includes Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Hong Kong.
India will open their campaign against the UAE on September 10 in Dubai, before locking horns with arch-rivals Pakistan in a much-anticipated clash on September 14 at the same venue. Their final group-stage fixture is set for September 19 in Abu Dhabi, where they will face Oman.
