NEW DELHI: Former India captain Rohit Sharma has yet to communicate his availability for the Vijay Hazare Trophy, the country’s premier 50-over domestic competition, to the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA).

The Vijay Hazare Trophy will be held in Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Jaipur, and Bengaluru from December 25 to January 18, with the knockout matches scheduled at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.

A senior MCA official confirmed to PTI that no communication has been received so far from the India ODI opener.

"There has been no communication as far as I am aware," the official said.

Rohit recently struck a match-winning 121 not out against Australia after scoring 73 in the second ODI of the three-match series.

Although India lost the series 1-2, Rohit was named ‘Player of the Series’ for his consistent performances.

The veteran opener has been training regularly at the MCA’s BKC facility in Mumbai, where young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal also joined him for a few sessions before linking up with the India squad for the first Test against South Africa in Kolkata.

Rohit and batting stalwart Virat Kohli have both retired from Tests and T20Is. The two are expected to feature in India’s ODI squad for the three-match series against South Africa starting November 30 in Ranchi.

The second and third ODIs will be held in Raipur and Visakhapatnam on December 3 and 6 respectively.

Earlier, a report by The Indian Express stated that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has taken a firm stance on the ODI futures of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.

The board has reportedly made it mandatory for both senior players to feature in domestic one-day tournaments, specifically the Vijay Hazare Trophy, to stay in contention for national selection.
