NEW DELHI: As tensions between India and Bangladesh continue to flare up, a fresh report has emerged related to Mustafizur Rahman as well as the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup, raising serious questions over Bangladesh’s participation in events scheduled in India.
According to a report by Cricbuzz, the situation surrounding the Bangladesh left arm pacer has escalated rapidly over the past few days following security related concerns.
BCB revokes Mustafizur’s IPL NOC
After the BCCI instructed Kolkata Knight Riders to release Mustafizur Rahman from the IPL, the Bangladesh Cricket Board has now taken a step. The board has decided to revoke the No Objection Certificate (NOC) granted to Mustafizur to play in the IPL with immediate effect.
This means that even if the BCCI or KKR were to reconsider their decision, Mustafizur will not be allowed to feature in the cash rich league this season. The decision was taken during a meeting involving BCB officials and concerned authorities, with security cited as the primary reason behind the move.
Bangladesh unlikely to travel to India for T20 World Cup
The Cricbuzz report also highlights a much bigger development beyond the IPL. It is understood that Bangladesh are unlikely to travel to India for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup amid the prevailing political tensions between the two countries.
Bangladesh may request that their World Cup matches be shifted to Sri Lanka, similar to the arrangement made for Pakistan. Pakistan’s games are to be played in the island nation due to the strained political climate.
The report adds that a formal press release from the Bangladesh Cricket Board is expected shortly.
