NEW DELHI: MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma are the most successful IPL captains, having led Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians to five titles each.
However, when asked to choose the more successful leader while speaking to Sports Yaari, former India wicketkeeper-batter Vijay Dahiya found himself on a tricky wicket, refusing to draw parallels and instead highlighting that both have different personalities.
He stressed that each captain has left a unique mark on the tournament, with Dhoni's composed leadership guiding CSK to consistent success, while Rohit's sharp and aggressive style brought MI multiple titles.
"Comparison is the thief of joy. Both are different personalities who bring unique qualities to their teams. Rohit's aggression is distinct, and Dhoni's calmness is unmatched. Both have delivered results in their own ways," Dahiya said.
After being retired from Test cricket earlier this year, Rohit spoke about the challenges of the format but stressed that he learned to handle them through rigorous preparation.
Rohit, who also retired from T20Is following the team's victorious World Cup campaign last year, did not enjoy as much success as in limited-overs cricket, finishing with 4,301 runs at an average of 40.58 in 67 Tests.
"It is something that you prepare for, because the game demands longevity. Especially in the Test format, you have to last for five days. Mentally, it is very challenging and it is draining as well. But all cricketers have been brought up playing First-Class cricket," he said.
