The Asia Cup victory for India against Pakistan has resulted in more tension off the field after the Indian team refused to take the trophy and medals from the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chairman, Mohsin Naqvi. After Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s congratulatory message to Team India went viral, several mixed reactions started coming out, one from Pakistan's interim minister and ACC chairman Mohsin Naqvi as well.
At the post-match ceremony, there was a scuffle among the ACC members, asking the Emirates cricket board vice chairman, Khalid Ali Zarooni, to hand out the trophy and medals to the Indian team, but Naqvi was adamant on handing the trophy himself. Despite multiple attempts at resistance by the Indian team, the trophy was taken away by the organisers.
If this was not enough, Mohsin Naqvi took to social media and tweeted on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s congratulatory post, “If war was your measure of pride, history already records your humiliating defeats at Pakistan’s hands. No cricket match can rewrite that truth. Dragging war into sport only exposes desperation and disgraces the very spirit of the game.”
Mohsin Naqvi was condemned for disrespecting the champions. Further, he demanded that Surya Kumar Yadav should be charged for standing with the Indian Army in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack.

The Asia Cup 2025 final got dragged more into a political fiasco after the 5-wicket victory over Pakistan. As in the post-match ceremony, the visibly distraught Pakistani captain, Salman Agha, threw away the runners-up cheque after receiving it from the ACC representative. The Indian crowd booed the Pakistani captain for this act.
