NEW DELHI: Jailed former cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan took a swipe at Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Mohsin Naqvi, saying that if Pakistan wanted to win a cricket match against India, Naqvi should open the batting alongside Army Chief Asim Munir.
His sarcastic remarks came in the wake of Pakistan's twin defeats to India in the ongoing Asia Cup in Dubai.
Speaking to reporters on Monday, former Prime Minister Imran Khan's sister Aleema Khan said that Imran quipped the only way Pakistan could beat India in cricket was if Army Chief Gen Asim Munir and PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi walked out as openers, with former Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa and Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja acting as umpires.
He further suggested that Islamabad High Court Chief Justice Sarfaraz Dogar should serve as the third umpire. Aleema added that she had informed her brother about Pakistan's back-to-back defeats against India.
Imran, who led Pakistan to their first and only victory in the ODI World Cup in 1992, blames Naqvi for destroying Pakistani cricket with his "incompetence" and "nepotism".
The 72-year-old has also long been accusing Gen Munir of stealing the mandate of his party, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), in the February 2024 general elections with the help of then CJP Isa and chief election commissioner Raja.
The PTI founder has been in jail since August 2023 in multiple cases.
