After‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ a pretty awesome game against Uttarakhand in which he took 7 wickets, Mohammed Shami has decided to put away his spat with BCCI Chairman of Selectors Ajit Agarkar behind him. The ruckus started when Shami said that he was ready to play and yet he had not been informed by the selectors or the BCCI about his ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌status.

“About giving an update, it’s not my responsibility to give an update or ask for an update. It’s not my job to give updates on my fitness. My job is to go to the NCA (National Cricket Academy), prepare, and play matches. Woh unki baat hai unko kaun update deta hai, kisne nahin diya. It’s their matter who gives updates or not. It’s not my responsibility,” Shami had said earlier.

BCCI steps in, Mohammed Shami focuses on cricket

Agarkar‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ had come back with the information that he has talked with Shami about his non-selection and that he would talk with him again if necessary. He also emphasised that the BCCI medical team has still not considered Shami fit for international cricket. Shami, on the other hand, ignored the statement, saying, "Let him say whatever he wants."

Trying to get things under control, the BCCI appointed RP Singh, the new Central Zone selector, to talk to Shami during the Bengal vs Gujarat match in the 2025-26 Ranji Trophy season at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. The meeting looks like it has done its job. After Shami took 8 wickets against Gujarat, including a five-wicket haul in the second innings, he stayed silent on the ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌controversy.

“I always end up being in controversies, you [the media] have made me that kind of bowler. Mai bolunga to bawal ho jayega. Now what can I say? I can’t even blame you; everyone does the same thing. On social media, people say anything they want,” Shami told reporters.
