NEW DELHI: Mohammed Shami's conundrum continues with the India pacer dropping a bombshell after being not included for India's upcoming tour of Australia starting October 19. The right-arm old pacer last featured for India in the Champions Trophy in March this year.

Shami broke his silence after the snub, surprising everyone by revealing that he is fully fit, while adding that selection is beyond his control.

"People want to know my opinion on the non-selection for the Australia series. I will just say that getting selected is not in my hands; it's the job of the selection committee, coach, and captain. If they feel I should be there, they will select me, or if they feel some more time is needed, it's in their hands. I am ready and practicing," Shami said on his YouTube channel.

"My fitness is also good. I will try to do better because when you are away from the ground, you need to remain motivated. I played in the Duleep Trophy. I felt very comfortable, my rhythm was good, and I bowled around 35 overs. There are no issues with my fitness."

Chief selector Ajit Agarkar raised eyebrows with his comment when he announced the squad for the West Indies Test series.

When asked about Shami's status, Agarkar admitted he was unsure of the pacer's fitness and hinted that Shami may not be in the current scheme of things, raising questions over his Test future.

"I don't have an update," was his quick retort when asked about Shami.

"He's played a couple of matches. But he's not had a lot of cricket. In the last two-three years, I think he's played one match for Bengal and one match in the Duleep Trophy. As a performer we know what he can do but he will need to play some cricket," the chairman said.

2023 ODI World Cup's highest wicket-taker, Mohammed Shami, has featured in seven ODIs and two T20Is since making his return to the national side earlier this year.
