At the age of just 14, Vaibhav Suryavanshi has forced the cricketing world to take a second look. The young prodigy has already broken records, shocked Indian greats, and mesmerised fans, simply with the way he bats. IPL 2025 showed a fearless player who made everyone question how he could be so young. Few have faced the two best fast bowlers in India, Mohammed Siraj and Ishant Sharma, and dismantled them with such ease that even the commentators, experts, and players watching couldn't believe their eyes.

Former India coach Ravi Shastri recently revealed a fascinating anecdote about Vaibhav during an episode of the Willow Talk show. Recalling one of IPL 2025’s most memorable games in Jaipur, Shastri said that former Australian opener Matthew Hayden was left stunned watching the teenager’s batting display.

“Hayden said, ‘Oh, he can’t be 14!’ while watching Vaibhav smash Siraj and Ishant all over the park,” Shastri shared, adding with a laugh, “I just told him, ‘Come on, calm down.’”

The batting phenomenon born in Bihar continued his form at the international level for youth as well. He scored 143 runs off 78 balls, against England U19, before hitting Australia U19 bowlers for 104 runs off 62 balls in the 1st Youth Test at Chennai.

However, his finest innings came on April 28 of this year at Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur, where Vaibhav scored a remarkable 35-ball century, with seven fours and eleven towering sixes, to help Rajasthan Royals chase down 210 runs in 16 overs.

Despite achieving all these records, Vaibhav is not showing any signs of stopping. He recently scored 113 runs off 86 balls against Australia U19 in Brisbane and is now playing the Ranji Trophy 2025–26 season for Bihar at the vice-captain position.

Vaibhav has had one of the fastest rises in any sport. He first came into the limelight when Rajasthan Royals signed him for ₹1.1 crore at the age of 13. By the age of 14, he became the youngest player in IPL history to score a century, this too against the Gujarat Titans.
