KL Rahul has established himself as one of the best Test cricketers in India. He broke his home century drought, last it was in 2016 against England when he missed an agonising double century, just fell at 199. Eight years, nine months and seven days before he touched the three-figure mark, on home soil.

Back in 2016, Karun Nair’s triple century also stole the limelight, but after that, Rahul’s centuries were scored mostly abroad. Slowly and steadily, he became one of the sound Test batters, with resilience, calmness and composure. However, he missed centuries on home soil.

Cut to eight years later, in the India vs West Indies test at Ahmedabad and carrying the momentum of the earlier Test he played in England, finishing up as the third highest scorer in the series behind Shubman Gill and Joe Root, with two centuries and two fifties and a total of 532 runs.
His century on home soil not only ended his personal drought, but also gave lead to India in the Test match.

This was KL Rahul’s 11th Test hundred and 20th overall in International cricket, nine of which have come from overseas.

KL Rahul’s Special Celebration

After completing the century, he raised his bat with his right hand and removed his helmet to kiss the Indian badge and put his ring and middle finger into his mouth, a unique century celebration which left everyone stunned. Many believed it was his dedication to his newborn daughter Evaarah, who was born in March 2025. While some believed that it was to silence the trolls and critics.

Whatever the reason may be, the century on home soil cemented Rahul’s status as one of the reliable Test batters in our country.
