NEW DELHI: Former West Indies captain Kieron Pollard, at 38, proved he still has what it takes to dismantle any bowling attack as he blasted his way to a magnificent half-century in the Caribbean Premier League.

Playing for the Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) against the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in Trinidad, Pollard smashed a blistering 29-ball 65, studded with eight towering sixes and two fours, making a mockery of the opposition bowling.

The highlight of his innings was a breathtaking burst of seven sixes in eight balls, propelling TKR from 99 in 14 overs to 143 by the 16th.

Pollard's onslaught began in the 15th over against Navian Bidaisee. Having crawled to 12 off 13 balls, he suddenly shifted gears - smashing the third and fourth deliveries for sixes, playing a dot, and then finishing the over with another maximum to collect 19 runs.

The carnage continued in the very next over. After skipper Nicholas Pooran took a single off the second ball, Pollard took center stage, dispatching the next four deliveries over the ropes for consecutive sixes, making it seven sixes in just eight balls.

Just a week after becoming only the second batter after compatriot Chris Gayle to cross 14,000 T20 runs, Pollard smashed a 21-ball half-century. His explosive knock powered TKR to a commanding total of 179 in 20 overs, which proved enough as they sealed a 12-run victory.
