NEW DELHI: Meghalaya's Akash Choudhary made history during a Ranji Trophy match against Arunachal Pradesh by becoming the first cricketer to hit 8 consecutive sixes and score the fastest-ever fifty in First Class cricket on Sunday.
Reflecting on his achievement, Akash said it felt like a "lucky day" and that he always tries to give his 100% on the cricket field. "My advice to anyone wanting to play cricket is simple: keep working hard, don't worry about others, stay humble, and always have the right intentions," he added.
Akash, who travels to Bengaluru to practise due to heavy rains in Meghalaya, also spoke about his dreams. "I want to take Meghalaya to the final," he said. He credits his inspirations - Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Hardik Pandya - for motivating him.

He also spoke about his family, saying, "My father is a welder and my mother is a tailor. They supported me in every way and never let me feel our background. Playing cricket has helped improve my family's situation."
Batting at No. 8, 25-year-old Choudhary achieved the stunning feat on the second day of the match at the CK Pithawala Ground in Surat. He remained not out on 50 off 14 balls, helping Meghalaya declared their first innings at a mammoth 628 for 6.
Choudhary broke the previous record of fastest fifty in First-Class cricket, which was set by Leicestershire's Wayne White in 12 deliveries against Essex in 2012.
He also became only the third player ever to hit six sixes in a row in First-Class cricket after the legendary Sir Garfield Sobers of the West Indies and India’s Ravi Shastri.
Before Sunday's outing, Choudhary averaged 14.37 with only two fifties in 30 First-Class matches, including this year's Duleep Trophy for the North East Zone. He has also played 28 List-A matches and 20 T20 matches.
