NEW DELHI: Pakistan batter Mohammad Rizwan’s retired out moment during a Big Bash League match has triggered widespread debate across the cricketing world.

The decision, taken due to his slow scoring rate, didn’t go down well with fans and several former Pakistan cricketers, with many labelled the move as ‘disrespectful’.

‘So embarrassing’: Fans brutally troll Mohammad Rizwan after he is retired out for slow batting

Kamran Akmal questions the call

Former Pakistan wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal was among those who criticised the decision.

Speaking during a discussion on GTV Sports said that senior players deserve backing rather than public scrutiny, especially in high-profile leagues like the BBL.

“Absolutely. I also believe this should not happen; he is our top player and a proven performer,” Akmal said

Reality of modern T20 leagues

Akmal also acknowledged the changing nature of T20 cricket. He pointed out that leagues across the world are now operating at a completely different speed.

“You have to realise how fast these leagues are. Every country is now following the modern-day approach to cricket, so it is vital to develop yourself accordingly. Rizwan has been playing with the same mindset since he started in T20s,” he added.

Rizwan and Babar under scrutiny

The incident has once again put Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam under scrutiny for their T20 strike rate. In an era where batters attack from ball one, both have struggled to maintain tempo, often finding it hard to clear the boundary.
