NEW DELHI: Australia’s premier fast bowler Josh Hazlewood has shown positive signs ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022. The pacer who has been managing a hamstring strain is expected to return for tournament starting on February 7.
Speaking to ESPNCricinfo, Hazlewood said that his recovery is on track.
“Everything’s going to plan. We took a few extra weeks once we couldn’t make the Test matches. Running’s going well and all the strength work is going well, so I am on track.”
The 35-year-old has had a long history of injury concerns, which have often interrupted his appearances across all three formats.
During rehabilitation for his hamstring strain, a recurring Achilles issue surfaced, forcing him to miss the Big Bash League, where most Australian players take part as preparation for the T20 World Cup. Hazlewood was also ruled out of the Ashes series, missing all five games.
The veteran pacer was last seen in action during the T20I series against India a couple of months ago. Since then, he has been unavailable for international duty. Earlier in 2025, Hazlewood had been part of the ODI series against India, the Test matches against West Indies, the WTC final, and RCB’s IPL-winning campaign.
Australia will be hoping for the early recovery of their experienced right-arm fast bowler as they continue preparations for the T20 World Cup.
