NEW DELHI: England wicketkeeper batter Jos Buttler etched history on Sunday as he became the most capped international cricketer for England during the second T20I against Sri Lanka.
The 35-year-old went past legendary pacer James Anderson’s 401 international appearances, moving to the top of the list. It was another reminder of Buttler’s longevity and his importance across formats, having represented England in Tests ODIs and T20Is over a long and demanding career.

A white-ball great with numbers to match
Buttler has often spoken about pride in wearing the England colours and his record backs that up. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest T20 batters of the modern era, known for fearless power hitting and the ability to finish games on his own.
He has been part of England’s biggest triumphs, winning the ICC T20 World Cup in 2022 and the ICC ODI World Cup in 2019.
In terms of numbers, Buttler has played 57 Tests scoring 2,907 runs, 199 ODIs with 5,515 runs, and 145 T20Is where he has amassed 3,886 runs.
Those figures underline his consistency and adaptability, while his impact in white-ball cricket continues to define England’s aggressive approach at the top level.
