NEW DELHI: Team India all-rounder Deepti Sharma celebrated India's emphatic 5-0 series victory over Sri Lanka after the fifth and final T20I in Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday. While acknowledging the historic achievement, she emphasised the team's focus on taking one match at a time, with the T20 World Cup still on the horizon.

In the process, Deepti broke Australia's Megan Schutt's record to become the highest wicket-taker in Women's T20Is. The right-arm spinner now has 152 wickets from 133 matches, boasting an impressive average of 19.00.

India sealed a commanding 5-0 series victory over Sri Lanka, with the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side defeating Chamari Athapaththu's team by 15 runs in the fifth T20I. The dominant performance provides a timely confidence boost for India ahead of the 2026 Women's T20 World Cup, scheduled for June-July next year.

At the post-match press conference, Deepti expressed her delight at becoming the highest wicket-taker in Women's T20Is. She also reiterated her focus on contributing consistently to the team with impactful performances in every match.

"It always feels good when you reach such milestones. I always try to give an impactful performance to help my team. This 5-0 result is a reward for everyone's contributions to the team; it was a complete team performance. It's good to carry on the winning momentum from the ODI World Cup to this T20I series," Deepti said in the press conference.

Deepti emphasised that, although the Women's T20 World Cup remains the team's ultimate objective, India is prioritising one match and series at a time. She highlighted the advantage of having several match-winners in the squad, which allows the team to consistently perform under pressure.

"The T20 World Cup is too far to think about at the moment. While the ultimate goal is definitely the World Cup, we are taking it match by match, series by series as series. There's been different match winners for us, and that's great for the team," she added.
