IOC president Kirsty Coventry has highlighted that cricket’s inclusion in the T20 format at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics will strengthen the International Olympic Committee’s connection with Indian fans. The announcement marks a landmark moment for the sport and is expected to expand its global following.

Coventry, a decorated Olympian and the first woman to head the IOC, shared her thoughts in a recorded message during the CNBC TV18 Global Leadership Summit. “With cricket returning to the Olympic programme at Los Angeles 2028, the connection will only grow stronger, bringing the magic of the Games even closer to the hearts of Indian fans,” she said.

The IOC is currently conducting an open tender in India to identify a media partner capable of broadcasting the Olympic Games nationwide. “Here in India, we are conducting an open tender process for media rights. Our goal is to find the right partner to bring the magic of the Olympic Games to every corner of this extraordinary country,” Coventry explained.

She also emphasised the IOC’s commitment to forging partnerships that promote integrity, innovation, and social impact. “Our aim is to build on this momentum through partnerships that create shared values—partnerships grounded in integrity, innovation, and social impact. Through the Olympic Partner Programme and our broadcasting partnerships, our global partners bring expertise, innovation, and resources that support athletes and the Games,” Coventry added.

Highlighting the growing synergy between sport and business in India, Coventry remarked, “We look forward to building new connections with those who share our belief that sport and business together can open opportunities, foster inclusion, and inspire the next generation to dream bigger.”
